Definitely recognizable as Blood Incantation, but when comparing to their newer material, this is bound to come out behind. This is still some damn good metal, with some killer riffs and the charming nostalgia of a demo. If you're just getting into BI, go listen to newer stuff, then come back. If you're a BI fan of any kind, pick this up.

Love for this track is naturally tempered by two factors. Back before _Starspawn_ BI hadn't put all the pieces in all the right places. Spectral Voice's contribution to this 7" split, by contrast, shows the way to _Eroded Corridors of Unbeing_. And while SV's _Necrotic Doom_ demo sounds like a band fully formed, "Mephitic Effluvia" is the only early BI song that is being made available that reeks of their rougher, insufficiently hewn history as a demo band. never been a big death metal fan but this is actually super accessible for the genre, has fun concepts, and personally i'm always a fan of albums with short tracklists and huge runtimes (for individual songs) Great time, good jumping on point for newbies too. alienasu

I'm exploring Blood Incantation's back catalog. This early work may have more primitive production, but they were already a fully-formed group of creative virtuosos. This music is controlled chaos. It's fast. There are tons of changes. It's unpredictable. But it never becomes unpleasant because there is always groove and melody and space. dharmalogos
